I've heard about Mother's Day bridal showers as much as your friends love you, they may want to spend that day toasting their moms and showers on high holy days my Jewish friend felt awful that she couldn't go to her pal's shower, but it was on Yom Kippur, the most sacred of observances--and she wouldn't have been able to eat anything anyway.
